Look for the light...

After going through what is probably the most traumatic experience of my life this past month, I feel forever changed. Almost losing someone (I love you, Ma!) that is very close to you brings so much perspective to life. Here are some things that I’ve experienced:

- You realize just how much value that person has to your life. We sometimes take each other for granted. Don’t do that anymore!

- You look at yourself, your friends, your family, and your relationships a bit closer. You recognize the ones that add value and the ones that don’t. You become no longer afraid to leave behind the ones that don’t.

- You draw nearer to the people that you love and that love you.

- The words “I love you” become easier to say, even when it may have been hard to do before. People deserve to know they are loved. (Yes, that includes you!)

- You understand that time waits for absolutely no one and you are in charge of what you do with that information.

- If you believe in God, your relationship deepens. You are forced to surrender and trust that what He has promised us is real.

- You can see more clearly the people that truly have your back and the ones that don’t.

- You feel more empowered to chase your dreams NOW rather than later.

It is unfortunate that it takes hardships to bring about change, but it shows that life is always teaching us something. In the midst of despair, there’s always a lesson. We can’t always see that in the thick of it, but it’s important to accept opportunities for growth when they arise. Even when the darkness seems never-ending, there’s a sliver of light somewhere. You just have to find it.

Treat each other well.

Be kind. Be grateful. Be real. Be light. Be honest. Be loving. Be in prayer. Be ever-growing.
